3.15.1.8 Exhaust system. The exhaust system shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.83 and shall be furnished with a spark arresting muffler. Means shall be provided to vent the exhaust fumes away from the cab and body. The spark arrester shall have
an 80 percent arresting efficiency when rated in accordance with SAE J350. The exhaust system or the hydraulic system shall be shielded so that, in the event of a hydraulic line rupture or hydraulic fluid leak, the hydraulic fluid will not come into contact with any part of the (auxiliary) engine exhaust system.
3.15.2 Air compressor. The air compressor shall be air-cooled, of the two-stage type with constant speed control; shall have an actual displacement of 30 cubic feet per minute; and shall provide a pressure of not less than 150 pounds per square inch (psi). The air compressor shall be complete with receiver, moisture separator, automatic oilers, shock- and waterproof pressure gage, safety valve, and all necessary equipment for satisfactory operation of the compressor. The receiver tank shall have a capacity of not less than 30 gallons. An air pressure regulator having a setting range of at least 50 psi to 150 psi shall be furnished. The air compressor shall be powered by the auxiliary engine and so mounted as to minimize transfer of vibration.
3.15.2.1 Air outlets and lines. An air line extending from the compressor to a quick disconnect type outlet at the curbside of the vehicle shall be provided. A quick-disconnect type tool outlet shall be furnished in the basket and shall be connected to the compressor by means of a hose and hose reel. The hose reel shall be mounted in an accessible location on the turret or derrick. The hose shall automatically extend or retract with the movement of the derrick. The hose shall meet the dielectric properties specified in 3.7.2. A four-way roller guide for the air hose shall be provided.
3.16 Rear winch. When specified (see 6.2), a rear mounted, hydraulic planetary or hydraulic helical gear winch shall be furnished. The winch shall have a rated single line pull capacity of not less than 15,000 pounds on the bare drum. The winch shall be provided with a hydraulic relief valve set to restrict the line pull to the winch rated capacity. The winch shall be of the single drum type and shall conform to SAE J706. The winch assembly shall be equipped with an automatic cable level wind, a cable tensioner, a shaft extension (AT&T type) on the curbside, a two- or three-speed transmission, and a hydraulic motor. The drive for the shaft extension (AT&T type) shall be located either on or off the winch assembly. An integral, adjustable, oil cooled, automatic safety brake shall be furnished. The winch shall have an operating efficiency to endure 8 hours of continuous operation under load without malfunction of any component in the winch. The winch shall be suitable for use in pulling underground cable and for use with the derrick. The winch shall be provided with guards over the chain drive, the sprockets, the cable tensioner and the cable. The winch shall be mounted directly to the chassis frame at the forward end of the body. The winch controls shall be furnished at the rear of the
