MIL-T-62110G
by replaceable shafts. The rotating bearing surfaces of the derrick assembly at the turret which are subjected to continuous wear shall be provided with replaceable bearings or bushings. Lubrication fittings shall be provided on all rotating parts. The bearing surfaces shall be adequate to resist torsional moment when inherent with the design.
3.6.2.2 Derrick operation. The rotating turret and derrick assembly shall be hydraulically actuated by separate mechanisms. The derrick operating mechanism shall be capable of limiting the lifting capabilities from rest position to those within the limits of the design stress specified in 3.6 to prevent overloading. For testing purposes, means shall be provided in the hydraulic system to perform the overload tests.
3.6.2.3 Derrick storage. For normal storage, travel and shipment of the vehicle, the derrick shall retract into an essentially horizontal position parallel to the longitudinal centerline of the vehicle. Saddle and tie-down devices shall be provided to support and hold down the derrick assembly to prevent nonactuated raising of the derrick assembly when the vehicle is in transit. Derrick saddles shall be sufficiently padded to prevent damage to any component of the derrick. Type I storage device shall be capable of being swung to the side when not in use to allow a clear opening to the vehicle body loadspace. When the derrick is in the travel position (on type II and III vehicles), the derrick and its components shall not obstruct the vision of the driver.
3.6.2.4 Capacity, height, and radius indicator. An indicator shall be furnished on the operator's side of the derrick to visually display capacities, height and radius.
3.7 Derrick extension and aerial basket. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), a manually operated, telescopic, fiberglass, nonconductive extension for the derrick shall be provided. The extension shall mount a one-man fiberglass basket or when specified (see 3.7.3) two one-man fiberglass baskets.
3.7.1 Plastic construction. Extension, basket and components shall consist of extruded, pultruded, molded, or spiral wound fiberglass, and each component shall conform to the performance requirements for electrical insulation specified herein. All components shall be from a combination and multiple layers of sterile electrical grade fiberglass roving cloth or mat with high impact strength resins with weathering and fire-retardant characteristics employed. The exterior surface shall be smooth and of a uniform thickness. When gelcoat is applied, the
thickness of gelcoat shall be not less than 0.006 and not more than 0.030 inch. The parts shall be
free from uncured areas, gaps, cracks, holes, blisters, fuzzy surfaces, resin pockets, areas lacking resin, laps, wrinkles, delamination, air or gas pockets, patches, porosity, and other similar defects. The material shall be essentially void-free. The entire surface shall be fully cured and free of tackiness. The percentage of glass by weight shall be approximately uniform.
