MIL-T-6211OG
bracket on model 6x4 and model 6x6 vehicles. Reinforcement shall provide sufficient structural strength in the chassis frame to adequately distribute and support the additional loads imposed by the rotating hydraulic derrick and the outrigger supports. The reinforcement shall provide sufficient structural strength to the chassis frame through increased resisting bending moment to at least equal the loads imposed on the vehicle body loaded to provide specified GVW. The chassis frame rails shall not project beyond the rear end of the body. The chassis frame for type I and type III, size 7O vehicles shall extend to under the rearmost outrigger. The chassis frame for type II vehicles shall extend to under the rear corner mounted derrick.
3.4.8 Suspension. The vehicle shall be equipped with a suspension system with components having a rated capacity at least equal to the load imposed on each member, measured at the ground, with the vehicle loaded to the required GVW. In addition, the rated capacity of the front suspension shall be not less than as specified in 3.2.6.1. When the suspension capacity is rated at the spring pads, unsprung weight shall be deducted. The vehicle
shall be equipped with hydraulic, double-acting shock absorbers at the front wheels. Suspension system ratings shall be adequate for the loads imposed during all specified operating conditions.
3.4.9 Axles. Axle ratings shall be at least equal to the load imposed on each axle, measured at the ground, with the vehicle loaded to the required GVW. In addition, the front axle rating shall be at least equal to that specified in 3.2.6.1. Gear ratio(s) shall provide the performance specified in 3.3.1 through 3.3.1.3. When specified (see 6.2), the wheel bearings and axle spindles shall be oil lubricated. Except for driving axles, the hubcaps shall have a window for visual determination of oil level. Provisions for venting or withstanding internal pressure buildup and for replenishing the oil supply shall be provided.
3.4.9.1 Two-speed axle. When specified (see 6.2), or when required to conform to
3.4.5.2, models 4x2 and 6x4 shall be furnished with a two-speed axle. The two-speed axle shall be equipped with electric, vacuum, or air shift, and provided with ratios which shall permit proper gear splitting. The gear ratios shall provide the performance specified in 3.3.1 through 3.3.1.3.
3.4.9.2 Rear bogie ( models 6x4 and 6x6). The rear bogie shall be of the four-wheel type, complete with axles, springs, torque rods, and all other necessary parts. The bogie shall be provided with a means of permitting differential action between the two axles and a manually or automatically controlled lockout assuring equal power to each rear axle. The manual lockout control used shall be located in the truck cab. Axle gear ratios shall provide the performance specified in 3.3.1 through 3.3.1.3.
