3.8.3 Digger and auger stowage on derrick assembly. Stowage for the digger with up to
24-inch size auger in place shall be provided on the derrick assembly. A safety device to prevent damage to the auger storage bracket, when winding a cable to stow the auger, shall be furnished. A hydraulic or mechanically operated automatic locking device with a positive lock to stow the digger and auger shall be furnished. The stowing mechanism shall raise the digger and auger
into a position along side of derrick assembly and place into the automatic locking device to retain and release the digger and auger as required. A slip clutch or other torque limiting device shall be provided for the winding cable. A safety check valve shall be furnished to prevent the clutch and digger from slipping. Stowage provisions shall have anti-bounce provisions for the digger and auger.
3.9 Derrick attachments.
3.9.1 Hydraulic pole grabber. A hydraulically tilted pole grabber shall be furnished. The pole grabber shall be located at the end of the derrick assembly. The assembly shall be capable of setting 55-foot length poles for size 55 and 70-foot lengths for size 70. The pole grabber assembly shall consist of two steel arms actuated by a hydraulic cylinder. The assembly shall be capable of tilting not less than 80 degrees. The pole grabber shall be provided with automatic safety pilot check valve(s).
3.9.2 Derrick winch. A hydraulic, motor driven derrick winch shall be mounted at the base of the derrick or on the turret assembly. The winch shall conform to SAE J706 and shall be equipped with an automatic brake. The winch drum diameter shall be not less than 8 inches.
The winch shall be provided with a hydraulic relief valve set to restrict the line pull to the winch rated capacity. The winch shall have a rated single line pull capacity on the bare drum of not less than 12,000 pounds for size 55 and 15,000 pounds for size 70. The winch shall be provided with a cable tensioner that resists cable overlapping on the drum.
3.9.2.1 Winch rope. Unless otherwise specified, the winch shall be provided with not less than 118 feet of 1.1250 inch diameter polyester double braid rope. The rope shall have an average breaking strength of not less than 46,000 pounds. The rope shall be coated for maximum abrasion resistance with a material that does not prevent splicing and does not interfere with dielectric properties. Eye splices shall be provided at both ends of the rope. A
removable thimble shall be provided at the free end. A swivel hook with down haul weight shall be provided. When specified (see 6.2), if an extension and a basket are not required, not less
than 150 feet of 0.5625 inch wire rope shall be provided in lieu of the polyester rope. The winch wire rope shall be improved plow steel, 6x37, hemp core, preformed, regular lay, with a cable
