3.5.2.3 Roof type II. A telescopic sheet metal roof over the center loadspace of the vehicle body shall be furnished. The roof shall have one fixed section at the forward end, and two telescopic sections. The roof shall be weathertight.
3.5.3 Lights. In addition to the lighting specified in 3.4.2.3, the following lighting and wiring shall be furnished:
(a) Lights with toggle switches and guards in each cabinet compartment having an exterior door opening
(b) Lights on universal mounts and of sufficient candlepower to illuminate body
loadspace and all equipment contained therein and all controls
(c) Two 5.750 inch diameter sealed beam spotlights with universal mounts shall be
installed, one on each side of the cab, operable from within the cab
(d) Demountable projecting load light on the hydraulic tilting pole grabber, with a
service line and socket when the end of the derrick extends beyond rear of the vehicle (type I only). A receptacle for a light on the rear of the body shall be provided. The light shall be in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.18
(e) Floodlight mounted on a universal mounting to illuminate the rear of the vehicle and towed vehicle. The floodlight shall be provided with a toggle switch and a switch on the instrument panel
(f) Amber, rotating, vehicular warning light in accordance with MS51317-4. The
rotating light shall be mounted with reinforcement at point of attachment on top of the cab on vehicle centerline for 360-degree visibility. The rotating light shall be operated by means of a separate switch with a red indicator light located on the instrument panel and marked to indicate the function of the switch
(g) Wiring for the body shall be in accordance with the applicable portion of
SAE 11292. All wiring exposed to possible physical damage such as wiring on a
compartment floor, or wiring where tools or materials may cause the wire to be frayed or shorted shall be protected by the use of heavy wall thermoplastic conduit or steel conduit having waterproof connections. Grommets shall be used for all wiring going through any hole or body framework
(h) Domelights with a toggle switch shall be furnished in the type II body.
3.5.4 Crew compartment. When specified for type II vehicles (see 6.2), a crew compartment with seats and backs for four men shall be integrally constructed on the forward end of the body. A personnel door shall be furnished on the right (curb) side. Two side windows and one rear window shall be provided; and a winch observation window shall be installed to enable the operator to observe the winch in operation. A compartment heater and roof vent shall be furnished. A flexible communication tunnel shall also be provided. An
additional stowage compartment shall be installed under the floor with an exterior access door on
