(f) An engine hour meter, having a totalizing mechanism of not less than 9,999 hours
(g) When power plant heaters are specified (see 3.4.1.6), a 300-watt immersion type
heater with 77°C (170°C) to 90°C (195°F) thermostat shall be installed in the oil pan through any convenient opening.
3.6.10.2 Engine control panel. An engine throttle, a key-operated starting (ignition) switch, and a palm button starter shall be installed in a weather- and waterproof cabinet on a control panel, and each shall be identified as to its function. The cabinet shall be provided with a
side- hinged cover with a spring type latch and provisions for locking with a 1-inch padlock.
3.6.10.3 Fuel pump. A fuel pump shall be furnished on the engine, lifting fuel against a head of 1219 mm (4 feet), the pump shall have sufficient capacity to supply the engine at its maximum rated load. An in-line fuel filter shall be provided.
3.6.10.4 Governor. A variable speed governor shall be furnished. The governor shall automatically control the engine speed at the selected rated speed at all fluid pressures and flows required. A manually-operated hand throttle shall control the engine at all speeds from the manufacturer's recommended minimum governed speed up to the maximum operating speed.
3.6.10.5 Auxiliary engine fuel supply. Unless an auxiliary engine fuel tank is specified
(see 3.6.10.6), the auxiliary engine shall utilize the vehicle's main engine fuel tank(s). A shut-off valve shall be provided in the fuel line in an accessible location. Fuel line(s) shall be in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 393.65 and 393.67.
3.6.10.6 Auxiliary engine fuel tank. When specified (see 6.2), an auxiliary engine fuel tank shall be furnished. The fuel tank shall have a capacity to provide fuel for at least 8 hours of
full-load operation. The fuel tank cap shall be attached to the tank by means of a corrosion resistant chain or cable. A sump shall be provided in the fuel tank suitable for collection and
accumulation of water. A drain shall be located at the bottom of the sump for complete drainage of the fuel tank. The drain shall be located to prevent spillage of fuel on any area of the vehicle.
The tank filler shall be provided with a protective screen and vent. A shut-off valve shall be provided in the fuel line adjacent to the fuel tank. A corrosion resistant plate shall be furnished
and marked denoting the type of fuel to be used, and shall be located in a conspicuous location near the filler cap. Fuel line(s) shall be in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Regulations 393.65 and 393.67.
