* 3.4.5.1.2 Transfer case (model 4x4). Model 4x4 vehicles shall be provided with a transfer case. Unless otherwise specified, either a one- or two-speed transfer case shall be provided. Unless the transfer case is equipped with devices which compensate for differential torque and speeds between the front and rear axles, the transfer case shall provide for driver selection of either two-wheel or four-wheel drive. When interaxle compensating devices are furnished, they shall provide for the positive transfer of power to all the driving axles. When specified (see 6.2), a two-speed transfer case shall be furnished. On two-speed transfer case vehicles, the speedometer shall read accurate vehicle speed with the speed selector on high and in low range.
* 3.4.5.2 Clutch. The clutch shall be the largest capacity clutch offered for the type, class and model of vehicle and engine furnished with clutch torque capacity exceeding maximum delivered engine torque. The clutch lining shall be asbestos free. The clutch on 6x4 models shall be equipped with spring dampening and a greaseable bearing.
* 3.4.5.3 Automatic transmission. When specified (see 6.2), the vehicle shall be provided with an automatic transmission. The input torque capacity of the transmission shall be at least equal
to the maximum torque delivered by the engine. The transmission shall include a hydraulic torque converter and not less than four forward gear ratios for model 4x2 and 4x4 vehicles, and
not less than five forward gear ratios for model 6x4 vehicles. The normal driving range selector position shall provide not less than four forward gear ratios without movement of the selector. A
drive gear for the power takeoff shall be provided.
3.4.5.4 Power takeoff. A power takeoff is required. The power takeoff shall be of a rated capacity to operate all auxiliary equipment. Controls to operate the power takeoff shall be located in the truck cab accessible to the seated driver. A caution plate or decal reading "DO NOT OPERATE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH POWER TAKEOFF ENGAGED" shall be provided and installed so as to be readily visible to the seated driver.
3.4.6 Driveline components. Driveline components shall be adequate to transmit the maximum delivered torque of the engine, as developed through the maximum gear train reduction.
3.4.7 Frame. The chassis frame shall be the manufacturer's standard for the type of vehicle furnished. The vehicle shall have a frame with reinforcements extending at least from the rear of the front-suspension, rear hanger bracket to beyond the rear spring front hanger bracket or to the bogie trunnion mounting bracket. Reinforcement shall provide sufficient structural strength in the chassis frame to adequately distribute and support the additional loads imposed by the
rotating hydraulic aerial platform and the outrigger supports. Reinforcements shall provide
