MIL-T-62518A
3.6.5.5 Tool trays. One fiberglass or polyethylene tool tray for each personnel space in the basket shall be provided to fit over the edge of the basket(s). Provisions shall be made to secure and stow the trays in a compartment of the body.
* 3.6.5.6 Basket(s) engine starter and cutoff. An engine starter and cutoff for the truck engine, remotely operated from the basket(s), shall be furnished. The engine starter and cutoff shall not reduce the insulating characteristics specified in 3.6.3.
3.6.5.7 Rotating basket(s). When specified (see 6.2), rotating basket(s) having not less than
45 degrees of rotation in either direction about their vertical axis, transverse to the upper boom,
shall be furnished. Total rotation shall be not less than 90 degrees. Gear rotation shall be
self-centering in final drive and controlled from the basket(s). When two baskets are furnished,
the basket with the controls may have restricted rotation in one direction to prevent the controls from hitting the boom.
3.6.5.8 Basket leveling system. The basket leveling system shall be either cable, roller chain, or hydraulic. The leveling system shall be designed with minimum stretch due to loading of the basket(s). The system shall be capable of keeping the basket(s) level with the rated load in the basket(s) positioned on the floor of the basket(s). An adjustment shall be provided to maintain horizontal position of the basket(s). The system shall be insulated as specified
(see 3.6.3). The system shall have a minimum insulation of 2740 mm (9 feet). Two independent leveling systems shall be furnished. The secondary system may be gravity, where the bottom of the basket(s) shall stay down in case of failure. Baskets suspended such that failure of the primary leveling system will result in gravity tipping the loaded basket shall be provided with a secondary non-gravity leveling system. The leveling system shall be automatically operated in
all positions the booms are capable of attaining. The basket shall be capable of being released
and easily tilted over, under control by one man, near ground level, manually or hydraulically, to remove a disabled operator or to dump out water.
3.6.6 Controls. A complete set of hydraulic hand operated controls for maneuvering the basket(s) shall be provided both at the basket(s) and at the base of the lower boom. Except for sizes 100 and 120 and larger, a single lever control for all maneuvering operations shall be furnished at the basket control station. The placement of the controls shall be so as to prevent inadvertent actuation by the operator. Controls for maneuvering the basket(s) shall be located at the right or left side of the basket(s) in a position easily accessible to the operator facing the work area. Controls shall not be mounted on the front or rear of the basket(s). The ground controls at the base of the lower boom shall be easily accessible from the floor of the body, otherwise a platform shall be provided for the operator at the base of the boom. Ground controls shall be placed in such a manner as to minimize the possibility of use by unauthorized personnel.
