The vehicle shall be diesel or gasoline engine driven, four-wheel, two rear wheel drive, having minimum gross vehicle weight GVW of 24,000 pounds and shall be equipped with a tilt cab, a 30 kilowatt kW auxiliary generator and a 4 kW auxiliary generator. The body shall be fully air conditioned and heated. Vehicles procured under this specification are commercial items which shall be warranted by the manufacturer as specified in procurement documents.

4.3  In-process water spray test.  To determine conformance to 3.5.2.1, 3.5.2.3 and

3.5.2.4, each vehicle produced under the contract shall be subjected to a water spray test.  The water spray test shall be performed prior to installation of the interior paneling and insulation. The vehicle shall be exposed to a 100 percent water spray test for not less than 15 minutes.  The spray shall be delivered by nozzles operating at not less than 25 pounds per square inch (psi) water pressure.  Nozzles shall be sufficient in number and so placed (approximately 4 feet from body) to afford full coverage of sides, roof, front, rear and undercarriage of the vehicle body. The spray shall be applied simultaneously or section by section.  All door and windows shall be closed as normal travel position.  During the water spray test, all doors, windows and paneling shall be examined and observed for leakage into the interior of the vehicle body.  Any evidence of leakage (water or moisture) shall be cause for rejection.

4.4  First production vehicle inspection.  To determine conformance to all the requirements of the contract, the first production vehicle produced under the contract shall be subjected to a water spray test, functional test, inspections contained in table II, and a road test. The inspections and road test shall be conducted by the contractor, at or near his plant, under the direction and in the presence of Government representatives.  Acceptance of the first production vehicle shall not constitute a waiver by the Government of its rights under the contract.

4.4.1  Vehicle weight.  To determine conformance to 3.2.4 and 3.2.5, the first production vehicle shall be weighed to determine the curb weight and the distribution of the curb weight on the front and rear axles.  The imposed loading on front and rear axles will be computed using the curb weight, the operator weight at 175 pounds, and the payload (see 3.2.5) to provide the specified GVW.  Calculated imposed loads on front and rear axles will be utilized to ascertain that the suspension, axles and tires furnished are adequate capacity to meet contractual requirements.

4.4.2  Road test.  To determine conformance to 3.3 through 3.3.2 and 3.5.6.4, the first production vehicle, with rated payload, shall be road tested prior to the water spray test

(see 4.3.1) and again after the final assembly.  The vehicle shall be road tested for a distance of not less than 50 miles both times.  The vehicle shall attain speeds up to at least 50 mph.  At least

20 percent of the road test distance shall be over dry, unimproved or gravel roads at speeds up to

20 mph.  The vehicle shall be subjected to not less than three sudden stops from speeds of not

less than 20 mph on a substantially level, dry, smooth surface free of loose material.  The vehicle shall be observed for the specified stopping distance.  During the road test, the installed
