smooth finish or the bottom half of the panels may be beaded. Sheets shall be overlapped and double-sealed with Alumelastic sealing compound, and shall be securely riveted to the body frame members. The roof shall be a one-piece panel of not less than 0.040 inch thick aluminum or not less than 20 gage (0.0359 inch) hot rolled steel with a rise at the center for efficient drainage. A drip molding shall be provided around the entire perimeter of the body. The body, roof and panel joints shall be watertight. The body exterior panels shall be leakproof. All adjoining surfaces shall prevent entry of water or moisture when exposed to a water spray test (see 4.3).
3.5.2.2 Wind deflector fairing. A wind deflector fairing shall be attached to the upper front face of the body, shall be functionally and dimensionally compatible with the air conditioning unit used, and shall enclose the air conditioning unit. Access panels for use in operating and maintaining the air conditioning unit shall be provided. The deflector shall have an aerodynamic fairing shape to direct airflow around the sides and over the top of the body. The deflector shall have a convex profile in both side and top views, forming a smooth compound curved surface blending into the rectangular body cross section. The lower edge of the fairing shall be located as required to minimize drag due to turbulent airflow from the cab.
The fairing construction material shall be molded fiberglass. The structural design of the fairing and its attachment system shall withstand, without excessive deflection, cracking or failure in the fairing or body structure, all applied loads, vibrations, and environmental conditions normally associated with a five-year commercial service life. Design operational limits shall include forward vehicle speeds of 60 mph during wind gusts of 60 mph from any direction. The wind deflector shall not interfere with tilting the cab.
3.5.2.3 Doors. Entrance and emergency doors shall be aluminum faced plywood core, one piece molded fiberglass plastic laminate construction, or pan-type, constructed of 0.125 inch aluminum, with aluminum tube reinforcement. Doors shall be insulated and shall close on
dust-sealing neoprene extrusions. Doors shall include safety glass window with removable curtains, and a double-acting door latch with keyed locks. Chromed grab handles shall be provided at door entrances. The entrance door shall be provided with a securing device to hold it in open position. The entrance door shall have an inset stepwell with a hinged aluminum cover equipped with non-skid safety tread, with pull-out steps under the stepwell. A foldout step shall be provided at the emergency door. All steps shall be capable of withstanding repeated loads up to 250 pounds. The emergency door shall be provided at the curbside within the Laboratory
