4.2.4.1 Fifth wheel (coupling interference). The truck-tractor incline ramps when coupling to a semitrailer, shall be of sufficient incline to prevent the front of the semitrailer contacting the truck tractor tires. Demonstration shall be performed, when the truck tractor tires are at maximum pressure recommended by the Tire and Rim Association for the size and ply rating of the tires (see 3.5).
4.2.5 Arctic provisions. When specified in 3.1.1.10, arctic provisions shall be examined and operated for not less than 50 miles at 20 to 30 mph at rated GVW to verify conformance to contract.
4.2.6 Production sample. Upon acceptance of the first production vehicle, it shall remain at the manufacturing facility as a production sample, and shall be the last vehicle shipped on the contract. Contractor shall maintain the vehicle in a serviceable condition for the duration of the contract.
4.2.7 Failure. Failure of the first production vehicle to meet requirements of the contract shall be cause for the Government to refuse acceptance of all vehicles under contract until corrective action has been taken.
4.3 Inspection of production vehicles. The contractor's inspection system shall, as a minimum, assure that the vehicles conform to the physical and dimensional requirements and is capable of meeting performance requirements contained herein. For each vehicle under contract, the contractor shall make available to the Government, at the point of final acceptance, records acceptable to the Government indicating that the servicing and adjusting required by 3.6 has
been accomplished.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Packaging requirements. The requirements for packaging of the vehicle from the manufacturer's plant to the initial receiving activity, shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's standard commercial practice.
6. NOTES
6.1 Intended use. The vehicle covered by this specification is intended for use by the
US Army for shuttling and spotting semitrailers at seaport terminals, truck terminals, and depots.
