MIL-T-62255C(AT)
3.2.10 Materials. Material shall be as specified herein. All material shall be new and unused. Materials not specified shall be selected by the supplier as being compatible with the intended use in accordance with the engineering standards of the heavy truck and
construction equipment industry and as set forth in the following industry standardization
publications:
Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Tire and Rim Association (TRA)
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI)
Truck Trailer Manufacturer's Association (TTMA) American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM)
Friction Materials Standards Institute (FMS)
3.2.11 Metric components in equipment. The use of metric components in equipment shall be identified. The contractor shall identify metric tool requirements for each level of maintenance. Metric usage shall conform to ASTM-E-380, Metric Practice Guide
(ANSI-Z-210). Metric equivalents may be used either as the primary standard of measurement,
or as the secondary standard, in parentheses. Where metric equivalents in parentheses are not considered practicable, a tabulation of equivalents shall be depicted.
3.2.12 Screw threads and fittings. Screw threads and fittings shall be based on United States
Standards and shall be identified when metric components are used.
3.2.13 Recycled, virgin and reclaimed materials. The use of recycled, virgin and reclaimed materials which meets or exceed the requirements of the applicable material specifications without jeopardizing the intended use of the end item shall be encouraged.
3.2.14 Fuel conservation. Engine and power train combinations selected shall be the most fuel efficient components which otherwise meet specified performance criteria. Engineering data and performance calculations submitted under requirements of the solicitation shall include fuel economy calculations based on a road speed of 30 miles per hour (mph) Class 1 Roads, Factor-Fair as specified in table 9 of SAE J688, at a gross combination weight (GCW) of the vehicle combination, with a gradeability of 0.5 percent, ambient temperature of approximately
60°F. In addition, fuel consumption shall be provided with the vehicle at idle speed. The coolant temperature of the engine and the transmission and converter shall be provided.
