shall be provided with drawer slides. Drawer slides shall be capable of preventing the drawer from pulling out of the cabinet unless the drawer slide lock is released manually.
3.5.4.3.3.1 Drawer latches. Each drawer shall be provided with a latch that will hold the drawer in the closed position and be sized to allow grasping with two fingers and possibly the thumb to unlatch and pull the drawer out to its maximum position.
3.5.4.3.4 Cubicles. Four cubicles shall be provided above the two drawers specified herein. The cubicles shall be one above the other, two in a horizontal plane. The cubicles shall be equal distance in height and a minimum 430 mm (17 inches) in width and approximately 380 mm
(15 inches) in depth before the application of foam cushioning specified herein. Each cubicle
shall be designed to accept a payload of 23 kg (50 pounds). The utility trays specified in 3.5.4.6 shall be stowed in the cubicles.
3.5.4.3.5 Doors. Two side hung cabinet doors shall be furnished. Doors shall be rigid with edges formed to a channel shape. Mitered corners shall be welded. Doors hinges shall be of the continuous type and located at left and right sides of cabinet front. Doors shall cover the
cubicles and the drawers. Foam thickness in the doors shall be of sufficient thickness to assure a tight closure of the cubicles when the doors are closed. Door openings shall be the maximum attainable without the doors in the open position interfering with the other fixed items. The cabinet doors shall be stenciled with "MAXIMUM LOAD 91 KG (200 POUNDS)." Each door shall have a double point latching mechanism operated from a single centrally located turn
handle or a recessed paddle type latch may be used in lieu of the turn handle. Provisions shall be
made for key locking the cabinet doors. The handle or paddle type latch shall be of sufficient size to be easily grasped with at least two gloved fingers and the thumb. When the doors are closed, the door shall not vibrate and shall fit snug. The latching and locking mechanism shall not bind.
3.5.4.4 Foam cushioning. Foam cushioning shall be applied on the interior side of the doors that cover the cubicles; on interior sides of each cubicle and on all interior sides of each drawer. Cubicles, drawers, and that part of the doors which covers the cubicle openings shall be lined with 13 mm (0.50 inch) thick (except as otherwise indicated) polyurethane polyester formulation foam. Foam thickness on doors shall be increased to sufficient thickness to assure a tight closure of cubicles when doors are closed. The bottom of the cubicles shall be lined with
38 mm (1.50 inch) thick foam. The foam shall be at least 32 kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3)
(2.00 pounds per cubic foot) in density conforming to type I, class 2, grade B of MIL-P-26514. Foam shall be bonded to the metal using adhesive conforming to type II of MMM-A-1617 or equal.
