supporting members for the shelves. The shelves shall be not less than 635 mm (25 inches) in depth, measured from the front to the back of the solid metal panel and the length, maximum obtainable. Each shelf shall have a turned up lip, hemmed, not less than 25 mm (1 inch) in height to prevent items sliding from the shelf rearward when the vehicle is being accelerated.
3.5.4.1.2 Shelf mounting. The first shelf shall be mounted 50 mm (2 inches) from the floor and have a 50 mm (2 inch) drop at the back and against the metal panel. The second shelf shall be mounted 485 mm (19 inches) above the top of the bottom shelf and provided with a 50 mm
(2 inch) drop at the back and against the metal back. The 50 mm (2 inch) space between the
vehicle cargo floor and the first shelf shall be provided with a metal trim panel. Mounting holes shall be on 125 mm (5 inch) centers both sides and back. Bolts, nuts and lock washers shall be employed to secure the shelves to the shelving frame and supporting members. Each shelf shall be designed for a load of 245 kilograms per square meter (kg/m2) (50 pounds per square foot)
with no evidence of deformation.
3.5.4.1.2.1 Shelf equipment and retaining straps. Each shelf shall be furnished with two retaining straps. Straps shall be located 75 mm (3 inches) above each shelf and 200 mm
(8 inches) above the first retaining strap. Strap shall be nylon web, 75 mm (3 inches) in width with a snap hook on each end. At the front of the cabinet, a means shall be provided in the
shelving frame to retain each strap. Straps are used to retain user equipment on the shelf, in addition to the equipment tiedown system.
3.5.4.1.2.2 Rubber cushion. Each shelf, shelf turned up lip, cabinet back, support members, and the interior side end panels shall be covered with spring rubber cushion having a medium durameter rating of 60-75 and 13 mm (0.50 inch) in thickness or as required to extend 3.2 mm (0.125 inch) above anchor tracks in 3.5.4.1.3. Rubber shall be similar or equal to McMaster
Carr Supply Company, Buna N (Nitride) rubber sheeting No. 8630K48. The rubber cushions
shall be secured to the support members, side walls, back, flange on the shelf, and load surfaces, using an adhesive that is compatible with the rubber cushion that is similar or equal to Type III of MMM-A-1617. The rubber cushion shall cover the entire shelf area except for that required for mounting the tiedown tracks described in 3.5.4.1.3. Rubber cushion shall be durable,
non-abrading type.
3.5.4.1.3 Equipment tiedown system. An equipment tiedown system for all shelving load areas shall be provided. The tiedown system shall consist of two anchor tracks running the full length of each shelf (four tracks required) and spaced ten inches on center. Six tiedown strap assemblies shall be provided for each shelf load area (12 required). Strap assemblies shall consist of two nylon web belts having a tension strength of 910 kg (2000 pounds). The track shall be similar or equal to Series G, Part No. 34030-2 with indexing fittings similar or equal to Part 32017, of Aeroquip Corporation that is referenced in Aeroquip Catalogue No.108.
