MIL-T-62145 Trucks: Elevating Body, Diesel And Gasoline Engine Driven, 21,000 To 39,500 Pounds Gvw, 4X2 And 6X4, CommercialThis specification covers diesel and gasoline engine driven four-wheel, two-rear-wheel drive, and six-wheel, four-rear-wheel drive vehicles having minimum gross vehicle weights GVW of 21,000 to 39,500 pounds, for normal operating conditions. The vehicles are commercial trucks equipped with stake and platform or van bodies, capable of elevating the body and cargo to a specified height for loading and unloading the cargo into and out of aircraft. The vehicles procured under this specification are commercial items which shall be warranted by the manufacturer as specified in acquisition documents.

4.4 First vehicle inspection. The first vehicle produced under the contract shall be inspected by the contractor at his plant under the direction and in the presence of Government representatives. The purpose of the inspection shall be to determine vehicle conformance to the contract. Acceptance of the first production vehicle shall not constitute a waiver by the Government of its rights under the provisions of the contract.

4.4.1 Weight and GVW. The first production vehicle shall be weighed to determine the curb weight and the distribution of the curb weight on the front and rear axles. The imposed loading on the front and rear axle(s) shall be computed by the contractor and verified by the Government and compared to the capacities of the suspension, axles, and tires to assure these components are of adequate capacity to meet contractual requirements. Distribution of weight shall be computed by using the curb weight, the operator weight at 175 pounds, and a payload to provide the required GVW (see 3.2.5).

4.4.2 Road test prior to operational tests. Prior to the tests in 4.4.4 through 4.4.4.12, the first production vehicle shall be road tested. The vehicle, loaded to required GVW (see 3.2.5) and with all equipment specified herein, shall be driven at speeds up to at least 55 mph, for a minimum distance of 30 miles. The distance traveled shall consist of highway, rough dirt roads, partly surfaced gravel roads, puddles, and sharp turns. For each 10 miles of travel at least one sudden stop shall be accomplished. Upon completion of the road test, all equipment shall be thoroughly examined. The equipment shall show no evidence of damage; all body and cab doors shall properly open and shut; there shall be no evidence of mud or dust inside type II van and there shall be no evidence of racking of the body.

* 4.4.3 Body treatment and painting. A certification regarding the body cleaning, treating, prime painting and salt spray resistance testing as required by MIL-STD-1223 shall be made to Government representatives at the first production vehicle inspection.

4.4.4 Operational testing.

4.4.4.1 Upsetting and range of movement. With the vehicle resting on approximately level ground and not fastened to any artificial base, the body shall be loaded with the test load specified in table V. The body shall be extended to its full height, lowered to travel position and raised to increments of one third, two thirds, and its full height, and lowered to travel position. The body shall be observed to insure that it stays level and for malfunctions or permanent deformation. The tires and outriggers shall be observed to insure they remain in contact with the ground.
