MIL-T-62079 Truck, Panel: Police Patrol Conversion, 8,000 Pounds Gvw, 4X2, CommercialThis specification covers a gasoline engine driven, four-wheel, two-rear wheel drive, forward control type, commercial panel or window van truck converted to a police patrol wagon with a rear compartment for confined occupants. The vehicles have a minimum gross vehicle weight GVW of 8,000 pounds. Vehicles procured under this specification are commercial items which are warranted by the manufacturer as specified in acquisition documents.

3.4.9.5 Spare tire assembly. When specified (see 6.2), a spare tire assembly shall be furnished. The spare tire assembly shall include an inflated spare tire mounted on the spare wheel or rim. The spare tire shall be of the same size, tread design and load range (ply rating) as the tires furnished on the vehicle.

* 3.4.10 Brakes. The manufacturer's standard power brakes shall be furnished. Brake linings shall be of nonasbestos material.

3.4.11 Steering. Power steering shall be furnished.

3.4.12 Windshield wipers and washers. The vehicle shall be equipped with dual windshield wipers and washers. Windshield wipers shall be of the multispeed type and operated by electric motor(s).

3.4.13 Bumpers. Front and rear bumpers shall be provided.

3.4.13.1 Rear bumper. When side facing seats in the rear compartment and a rear entrance door are furnished (see 3.5.1, 3.5.4.1 and 3.5.4.3), the rear bumper shall be a heavy duty channel type, with a safety-tread step. The step shall be not less than 8 inches deep and shall extend not less than the full width of the rear door(s). The step height shall be approximately half the distance between the ground level and the body floor height.

3.4.14 Tools. When specified (see 6.2), each vehicle shall be furnished with tools required for exchanging the mounted tire assembly with the spare assembly and shall include at least a jack, a jack handle, and a wheel nut wrench. The jack shall be of such closed height as to permit its location under the axle or other satisfactory lift point, at any wheel with a tire flat. The jack, without blocking, shall be capable of raising any wheel of a loaded vehicle to a height adequate

to permit removal and replacement of the wheel and tire assembly. The tools shall not be stowed in the rear passenger compartment.

3.4.15 Heater and defroster. A hot water heater shall be provided. The heater shall have fresh air intakes. Discharge outlets shall be provided to direct heated air to the floor and to the windshield defroster louvers. The heater shall be complete with blower and mounted controls convenient to the driver. A rear compartment heater shall be furnished and protected with a cover to prevent damage to the heater by the occupants. The heater control shall be located in the driver's compartment in a location readily accessible to the driver.

3.4.15.1 Air conditioning. When specified (see 6.2), a driver's area air conditioning system shall be furnished. A tinted safety glass windshield shall be furnished. When specified (see 6.2), a rear compartment air conditioning system shall be furnished.
