* 3.4.2.4 Radio interference suppression. The vehicle shall be suppressed to limit electromagnetic radiation in accordance with SAE J55l. Any body equipment emitting electromagnetic radiation shall be suppressed to the same level as the vehicle chassis.
3.4.3 Fuel system. The fuel system shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 393.65 and 393.67 (except compliance with 393.67(c), subparagraphs (1), (4), (ii), (8), (9), (11), 393.67(d) and 393.67(f) is not required).
3.4.3.1 Air cleaner. An air cleaner shall be furnished.
3.4.4 Exhaust system. The exhaust system shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 393.83. The exhaust shall discharge to the atmosphere to the rear of the vehicle or to the side behind the rear wheels.
3.4.5 Gear train.
3.4.5.1 Transmission. The input torque capacity of the transmission shall be at least equal to the maximum torque delivered by the engine.
3.4.5.2 Automatic transmission. Unless otherwise specified (see 3.4.5.3), the contractor's current standard automatic transmission, having not less than three forward gear ratios and one reverse gear ratio, shall be furnished.
3.4.5.3 Manual transmission. When specified (see 6.2), a manual transmission shall be provided. The transmission shall have not less than three forward speeds and one reverse speed. The transmission shall provide for maximum ease of shifting with synchronized shift in all gear ranges.
* 3.4.5.3.1 Clutch. The clutch shall be the largest capacity clutch offered for the type of vehicle and engine furnished with the clutch torque capacity exceeding the maximum delivered engine torque. The clutch lining shall be asbestos free.
3.4.6 Driveline Components. The driveline components shall be adequate to transmit the maximum delivered torque of the engine, as developed through the maximum gear train reduction.
3.4.7 Suspension. The vehicle shall be equipped with a suspension system, with components having a rated capacity at least equal to the load imposed on each member, measured at the ground, with the vehicle loaded to the specified GVW. When the suspension is rated at the
spring pads, the unsprung weight shall be deducted. The vehicle shall be equipped with hydraulic, double-acting shock absorbers at each wheel. When specified (see 6.2), heavy duty springs and shock absorbers, front and rear, shall be furnished. Heavy duty is defined as having
