3.5.2.4 Body tank cover (deck). A deck shall be installed completely around the inside perimeter of the tank. The width of the rear deck shall be approximately 529 mm (20.75 inches). The width of the two side decks measured from the outside edge shall be approximately 523 mm (20.5 inches). The width of the front deck shall be approximately 560 mm (22 inches). The
deck shall be arc welded to the body shell and shall be watertight. The remaining open area shall be enclosed with two, 10 gage (3.416 mm) (0.1345 inch) steel hinged covers with gaskets, positioned so that the covers may be opened for inspection of the interior. A suitable locking means shall be provided to prevent covers from opening while the tank is in the hoisting or traveling position.
3.5.2.5 Hatch. A hatch with cover shall be provided on the forward deck, directly over the tank drain and of sufficient size for cleaning the forward compartment and tank drain.
3.5.3 Racks and ladder.
3.5.3.1 Sewage tool rack. A rack shall be provided on the top deck curb side, adjacent to the
125 mm (5-inch) discharge pipe for storage of the four-tine sewer rake, street shovel, scraper, street broom, and agitator hose and tube assembly. The racks shall securely hold the sewage tools from vibrating and coming loose while in transit. Tools shall be of sufficient length to enable the operator to scrape the tank bottom while standing on the tank body ladder or to reach into catch basins to break up so1ids.
3.5.3.2 Hose racks. Sufficient number of racks shall be provided for not less than 4570 mm (15 feet) of 75 mm (3-inch) diameter underground suction hose. The racks shall be accessible from the curb side of the vehicle, and located in such a manner that they can be washed and cleaned. Hose clips shall be provided to hold the hose in the respective racks.
3.5.3.3 Fill hose rack. A rack of sufficient size for 7600 mm (25 feet) of 64 mm (2.5 inch) diameter collapsible fill hose (see 3.5.9.2) shall be provided. The rack shall be accessible from the curb side of the vehicle and located in such a manner that the fill hose may easily be attached to a water hydrant for filling the tank body.
3.5.3.4 Ladder. A ladder shall be securely fastened to the side of the tank body.
3.5.4 Level indicator. A level indicator shall be provided to determine the amount of fluid in the tank and shall be located on the curbside of the vehicle.
